California's 8th District

Most of San Francisco belongs to California's 8th congressional district. Outside of New York City, it is geographically the smallest.
San Francisco is a very diverse city, making civil rights a major focus. U.S. Census in 2000 figures suggest more than half of San Francisco citizens are not white, and about 1/3rd are Asian. Half of the homes in San Francisco are bilingual, far more than the national average.
A quick glance over the House election voting history in San Francisco since 1992, when Nancy Pelosi was first elected to Congress, shows that few contenders have been able to secure as many as 30,000 votes to Nancy's 100 to 200 thousand plus. She has run practically unopposed since assuming the seat. With the help of San Francisco, 2010 will be different.
