“I was wondering what you think is the appropriate role of government in our lives?”

John: “That’s a great question; I think that the appropriate roll for government in our lives is to just protect our rights.  I think if you read the Constitution I think that’s what the framers were aiming for.  I think that’s what the philosophy was that drove them in the 18th century.  It’s a philosophy that put the individual as the sovereign, and the sovereigns granted some of their rights to the government in order to protect the rights of everyone.”
